| Matt Harris is a graduate student at
North Carolina State University majoring in Agricultural Education. Matt started his racing career in the 90's
while attending Chase High School in Forest City. He resides in Cliffside, North Carolina with his family who are the foundation of his racing career. While in high school Harris helped his mother and father in their part-time chassis fabrication business. In doing that he became involved with stock car racing and decided that he wanted to take a stab at racing. With the help of his parents, Terry and Kathy, they built Harris' first race car. From that point on Matt & his family have raced four cylinder dirt cars. In the 1999 season they moved into the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series but will return to the dirt ranks for the 2001 season. The Harris' family has been an important part of Matt's racing career. His mother, father and sister Nikki, have always supported him. They have been his biggest fans at the track. For the Harris family racing is a group effort with roots that trace back to the 60's. Matt's dad built his first engine at the age of 16 with the help of his cousin and his mother who is the person who keeps everything going. They have a race team that is a family effort. Harris began his racing career in the Stock Four Division at Cherokee Speedway in 1993. At the age of 15, Matt and a friend from high school, persuaded his mother and father to help build a Ford Pinto race car. For the past seven years Matt has raced while trying to juggle school, church and other activities. Matt attended Isothermal Community College for two years after high school and was a North Carolina FFA state officer in1994-95. He is an active member of Prospect Baptist Church, the Agricultural & Extension Education Club and North Carolina Collegiate FFA at North Carolina State University. In 1999 he received his B.S. in Agricultural & Extension Education. Currently Matt is a graduate student at North Carolina State in Raleigh and plans to complete a Masters of Science Degree before returning home to Cliffside North Carolina to teach agriculture and continue his involvement with Harris MotorSports. |
